Experience
Clay has taught in the Central Okanagan School District in Kelowna, B.C. since 2004, and, before that, he taught in the Chilliwack School District for over three years. He is currently working as an intermediate teacher in School District No. 23 (http://mistermcleod.weebly.com/). He has also worked for Okanagan College Continuing Studies, as a Camp OC instructor in the summer, and he presented seminars at UBC Okanagan's Summer Institute in Education in 2012 & 2013. From 2008 to 2010 and again from 2013 to the present time, he has been a Member-at-Large on his BCTF local's (the Central Okanagan Teachers' Association) Executive Committee, and he has served on an advisory committee to the BCTF Executive Committee called the Committee for Action on Social Justice (he was a member of the Peace and Global Education Action Group during the 2008/2009 school year).
Clay practised law for three years, with experience in criminal and civil litigation, human rights law, administrative law, and implementing office practices and procedures.
Since 1991, Clay has completed a number of consulting assignments for organizations involved in community-based and social justice-oriented projects and endeavours, including many First Nations organizations.
Clay is a published writer whose writing has appeared in OWL: The Discovery Magazine for Kids (he wrote the January/February, 2005 cover story about Fair Trade chocolate), The Tyee: The Feisty One Online (http://thetyee.ca/Bios/Clay__McLeod/), the Alberta Law Review, Canadian Author magazine, Canadian HIV/AIDS Law & Policy Newsletter, the Red Deer Advocate newspaper, The Mindfulness Bell: A Journal of the Art of Mindful Living, and Dharma Diary. From 2003 - 2007, he acted as the volunteer editor of Dharma Diary, published by Vipassana British Columbia (now B.C. Insight Meditation Society).
